Penalty Avoidance
Do you continue to stay up-to-date on ever-changing government regulations? Are you aware of the risks you run from non-compliance?
You must have I-9 forms for every employee. Failure can result in fines of $100 to $1,000 per violation if not properly completed, retained and made available for inspection.
OSHA penalties range up to $70,000 depending upon the severity of the violation. These can be avoided or mitigated if the company demonstrates a willingness to comply.
The Federal Labor Standards Act (FSLA) has rules on employment status (exempt vs. non-exempt) and overtime pay. Noncompliance penalties are $1,000 per violation and back pay can be collected.
Harassment in the workplace is becoming more common and litigious. Are you taking the proper steps to educate your workforce and reduce your exposure?
What else don’t you know?
According to the Government Accounting Office, federal regulatory agencies issued over 15,000 final rules between 1996 and 1999. As regulations increase, so does the cost of compliance.
